Our Approach: We provide care, with the understanding that our clients often experience hair trauma, even when paying for professional services. At Renaissance Curls, our goal is to offer the highest level of comfort & care for the duration of your time with us.

  • About 80% of our clients have tight curly natural hair but we do have clients with wavy or loose curls.

  • Yes, generally clients will need an appointment. If you are looking for same day/walk in service, please text us to see if we have availability.

    Visit our new clients page, which will direct you to our online booking system. You’ll be able to select the services, date, and time you desire.

  • No need, a professional wash is included in all services.

  • Have your hair loose, detangled or separated as much as possible and not in a protective style.

    If your hair is very tangled when we start your appointment, it will add on time to your service and an additional fee starting at $50 will be added on to your services.

  • Yes, we offer a partitioned area upon request to ensure comfort and privacy for clients who wear a hijab or prefer discretion.

  • You will either need to provide a valid card information to have it on file in our secure booking system or pay a non refundable deposit.

  • Yes, we service children as long as they can follow directions and sit still.

    For special needs children, the salon must be informed prior to the service in order to determine that we have all proper accommodations on site.

  • Absolutely! We facilitate the process as much as possible by providing a step by step routine and plan for your transition.

  • We sell a selection of products in our salon, and have a list of recommended products available on our Education page.

  • Put 2 to 4 hours aside, more if you’re getting color. Working with natural hair can occasionally take a long time depending on how many services you get.

  • Yes. Whether you get half an inch or 3 inches trimmed off, the same professional steps are taken to ensure a beautiful shape even if we’re cutting very little length.

  • Yes you can add yourself to the waitlist when you try to book online or we can add you to the waitlist when you email or text us.

  • We don’t offer these services, but we can give you great referrals.

  • The duration of a hairstyle can range from a couple of days to 2-3 weeks depending on the condition of your hair, the hairstyle, weather and at-home care.

  • Absolutely! However we do not have a barber on-site so barber detailing (line ups/fades/designs) are not available.

  • It depends on the client's texture and lifestyle. We can cut your hair curly wet or curly dry or stretched out with a blow out or straightened with a flat iron.

  • The hair is stretched out with a blow dryer and we “silk it” or render your curls straight with a flat iron. This style can last up to 2 weeks if your hair is hydrated pre-silk press and if you follow our maintenance instructions at home.

    We do not recommend this service during summer due to our beautiful city’s humidity levels which can shorten the lifespan of this style or if your hair is damaged.

We are located next to the restaurant The Row and above Alibi near 139th street.

You can travel to our salon using the 2, 3, A, C, B subway lines. The closest bus line to our location is the M2. There is also street parking in the area.

When you arrive at our building, please ring SALONnot apartment 2—on the intercom.

  1. Go up the steps; the intercom will be on your right.

  2. Press the yellow up arrow until “SALON” appears on the screen.

  3. Press the green bell button.

  4. Wait for the buzz, then open the door.

The salon entrance will be on your right, behind two large black doors.
